Upcoming Talk By Foodcube

Ashburton Community Gardeners are invited to a talk from Darren from Foodcube. Head to the garden on September 14th at 11am to learn more about Foodcube’s wicking garden beds.

Foodcube’s modular wicking garden beds are made right here in Victoria, from recycled, food-grade plastic that has been diverted from landfill. They has been involved in some inspiring community projects, including Skyfarm (pictured below).

Foodcube has a passion for encouraging communities to grow their own foods. According to their website:

“The median lot size in Melbourne is now below 400m2 resulting in significantly less land available for gardening and food production.  Research has shown that by 2050, Melbourne will be importing more than 80% of it’s fresh food from outside the traditional food bowl of 100km from the CBD for the first time in history.”

This is a poignant reminder of the importance of what we do at our community garden.
