Protecting Delicate Shoots

By Hanna Ashton-Lawson

There is nothing more frustrating than finally having your seed shoot and emerge from the earth, only to return and find it nibbled away by snails or slugs.

Something that I like to do when my sweet peas sprout is to pop a glass jar on top. You need to ensure that it is a tall jar, with no label for adequate light. Once the seedling reaches the top of the jar, be sure to remove the jar to allow the plant to keep on growing.

As for the weeds, that’s a problem to tackle another day!
