Meet the Gardener: Plot 35 & Orchard

Interview with Anne, plot number 35 and orchard.

What inspired you to join the community garden?

I've always enjoyed gardening and wished to meet likeminded people with whom I could share knowledge and learn more about gardening.

How long have you been a member?

Late 2020.

What has been a success in your plot?

This where I'm going to digress a little.  I also look after the orchard with Graham's help.

Last year the orchard gave the Community Garden: quinces, Feijoas, Granny Smith apples, lemons, plums. The apples were prolific to the point that some were given to some gardeners and put on the swap table. Same with the feijoas. Lots of quince jam.

There were pears but the parrots got to them. This year I plan to put fruit bags over the pears to try and stop the parrots getting to the fruit.

Why do you enjoy gardening?

I love to grow my own produce and take it home and cook it knowing I'm feeding my family the best vegetables and also sharing any leftover produce with the community gardeners.

What are you excited to grow next?

In my plot, I'm going to try to grow melons.  I've planted squash and some Apple cucumber seeds.
